Built on the firm belief that every young person should have the aspiration, confidence and skill set to succeed in whatever they wish to do, Debate Mate works to raise up individuals whilst closing the widening skills gap between education and employment. Partnering with schools with high percentages of students receiving free school meals, they use a highly effective peer-to-peer mentoring model to teach children aged 8 – 18 the art of debate. Their model demonstrably builds vital skills, including critical and creative thinking, teamwork and leadership, communication, and empathy.
The Symondson Foundation has committed to three years of unrestricted funding to support Debate Mate in building confidence and eliciting brilliance in young debaters.
